Penny Lane

Hello babies! I thought I'd do a quick outfit post from the other day before I drag myself into bed for a much needed nap on this rainy day. As much as I try to embrace this weather when it comes around, it never fails to bring my mood down a little. So, let's reflect on a brighter day, yeah? Yeah!

Speaking of bright, look at THESE PANTS. Oh, these pants. They are so loose and comfortable, and so easily dressed up or down. I have been trying to steer clear of the fast fashion industry lately, but I couldn't pass these up at Forever 21. On a regular day of running errands and getting coffee, they are perfect with ankle boots and my favorite vintage tee. You guys have seen my Dead tee before, and this won't be the last time. It is one of my favorite staples and goes with so many things.

Honestly though, this outfit is basically like wearing pajamas. It's fine. I'm the queen of casual. This outfit also kind of makes me feel like I should be following a rock band instead of taking finals. Which is probably true.

iphoneography and on growing older

I think often about aging. I probably fear it a little. Modeling forces you to think about the way you look every day, for better or for worse, and none of us are getting any younger. Looks do not always fade, sometimes they just change, evolve effortlessly and graciously. When I picture a woman who has aged well, the image involves wrinkled but still soft and luminous skin (think present-day Diane Keaton), and a classic, simple style of dress. Perhaps most importantly though, I think of a beautiful mind. Intelligent, thoughtful, retaining a lust for life and for absorbing new information. Through modeling I have almost become more conscious of retaining my intellectual beauty. I always want for people to understand (and for myself to remember) that I am more than a face, and the older I get the further I will gravitate away from our culture's traditional standard of physical beauty.

I was lucky enough to meet with a family friend over the weekend to see her husband's art in a gallery and to have lunch. The Honorable Kate Toomey (yep, she's a judge) is the epitome of a woman who has aged gracefully. She radiates physical beauty and positive energy, and is intelligent and interested in the people and things around her. She was kind enough to let me snap a few photos of her on Saturday.

Look at how adorable she is. Do you see what I mean about radiating positive vibes? I mean, look at that smile. Aging well physically has a lot to do with classic style to me, it's easy to seem either dated or like you're trying too hard to be trendy and look younger. Neither look good. Kate is proof that at no matter what age, you can never go wrong with black, white, and leather.

Also, let's take a good, long minute to appreciate these shoes. You can never ever ever ever ever go wrong with menswear inspired anything. Ever. These shoes are my favorite part of the outfit. It's all in the details. These oxfords are by a brand called Gravati, and can be found here

Thank you Kate for your awesome company on Saturday, for letting me take these photos, for being genuinely interested in my life since I was 12, and for being the perfect example of what we all should strive for in our search for inner and outer beauty.

SLC livin'

Walking around downtown Salt Lake is quite honestly one of my favorite things to do. There is nothing like enjoying some conversation with someone awesome- preferably with a coffee or tea in hand- and exploring all the little nooks and crannies of the city. The people watching is usually pretty fantastic, too. The simple pleasures in life are often the most fulfilling.

These photos were taken in the alley and lot just east of Fice boutique and Este pizzeria.

Kudos to Lisa for capturing my goofiness in that last photo. Candid pictures are definitely not always the best ones, but it's one of those when they're good, they're great kind of things.

FIRST OUTFIT POST OMG

First outfit post, and my first post of any kind on this blog! Woohoo! I've had fashion and outfit-related blogs in the past, but it hadn't occurred to me in years to try it out again until recently. A week ago I created this blog at 6 am in a haze of insomnia; how most of my writing (and great ideas, obviously) are induced. Case in point, I am writing this at 3:17 am. Hey, ya gotta strike when the iron of creativity is hot no matter when that may be! My iron just happens to heat up in the middle of the night. Now enough of that metaphor, onto the important stuff: the clothes.

Can you feel the excitement?! No? Not to worry, this photo of me being stoked on life and shopping carts should induce some!

You will be seeing more of her work on my blog in future posts!

Thank you to everyone who has made it this far in my (our) blogging journey. I hope you stick around, give feedback, sit back, get comfy, all that good stuff.
